71: Special Ep: Don Jamieson of That Metal Show Interview

Ep 74: Comedian Don Jamieson discusses new album, future of That Metal Show, Dio hologram, attending the grand opening of David Ellefson’s coffee shop, nerd humor and opening for rock bands.

Communication Breakdown was released on April 21st, 2017 via Metal Blade Records. For a preview of Communication Breakdown, the track “Kiefer” can be heard at: metalblade.com/donjamieson.

On That Metal Show ever coming back: “Don’t give up hope. We’re trying like crazy to find a new home. In fact I just got off the air with Eddie Trunk and we talked about a couple of options for a new home for it. So there’s things happeneing.”

On whether he’s on Paul Stanley’s shit list due to his relationship with Eddie Trunk: “Well I’m not blocked on twitter or anything by him, so I think I’m ok. I don’t think he gives me a lot of thought to be honest.”

On the grand opening of the Ellefson Coffee Shop in Jackson, MN: “We went to the grave of Mary Jane Terwilliger who is supposedly a witch who was supposedly buried alive at the Loon Lake cemetary by her father and that’s where Megadeth got the song Mary Jane.”

On opening for bands vs. a straight up comedy show: “It’s much tougher. I always loved the early days when a comic would open for a band and that was the cool thing. For so long it was not a cool thing. And I’m happy to be one of the few comics in the modern day making it cool again.”

On the Hologram Dio: “I saw the clips online. I thought it was good. Obviously as a fan you debate in your head you have mixed feelings about it but, I will go see it. I know the people in Ronnie’s camp care and wouldn’t let it be done in a crappy way.”

On The Big Bang Theory: “We’re in the age of nerd humor. And look, I’ve been a rock n roller my whole life. My favorite comics are Dice, Richard Pryor, George Carlin you know. Guy’s who were ground breakers. I’m not watching nerd humor with this goofy, I don’t even know what kind of humor. Thank god there’s a laugh track because I wouldn’t know where to laugh at some of these jokes.”

About Don Jamieson: Is a stand-up comedian and known as one of the hosts of That Metal Show on VH1 Classic.
Don and long-time comedy partner, Jim Florentine have a series of prank call CD’s, “Terrorizing Telemarketers,” which get a lot of airplay on the Howard Stern radio show. He is also a joke writer for celebrity roaster, Lisa Lampanelli and a member of acoustic death metal band Gunfire-N-Sodomy.
